Miko is Austrian Open Champion

Karakal's Miko Äijanen is the 2019 Austrian Squash Open Champion after overcoming top seed and defending champion Lyell Fuller in four games last Saturday in Salzburg.

As expected with Lyell and Miko the one and two seeds in the event the final got off to an even start, with both players keeping a high pace and contesting some exciting rallies, until a tiebreak decided the first game for Lyell 13/11.

After such a tight first game and the crowd were expecting a very close match, but the Englishman could not seem to keep up with the first game's exacting pace, whilst Miko showed no sign of slowing down and levelled the match 11/2. From that point on the Finn was too strong, quickly taking the last two games 11/4, 11/3 to win the 45 minute final.

After the match a happy Miko said 'Thanks to everyone who helped running this tournament. It was very nice to come and play here again and I had a great time here. Also I am very happy with the way I played in every match of the tournament.’

Congratulations to Miko for becoming Austrian Open Champion and further congratulations to the sponsors, organisers, volunteers and the host Europark, Salzburg.
