Three in a row for Lobban

Three in a row for Lobban

Karakal's very own British Lion, Greg Lobban, has recorded his second victory on his personal Tour of New Zealand.

Scottish #2 Greg, photographed here receiving his winner’s trophy from Squash City President, Grant Smail, faced the top seed Ivan Yuen of Malaysia, in what was to prove a tight and tense final at the PSA ILT-Community Trust NZ Southern Invercargill Squash Open.

After getting off to a fast start Greg weathered a strong come back from Ivan before his precision and pressure gave him the first game 11-7.

In the second it was Ivan who took the early lead before a determined fight back from Greg, which included a 7 point run, saw him capture the game 11-6.

Determined to make a match of it, Ivan stormed back to take the third game 11-3, as the match seemed to be turning in favour of the Malaysian player.

The fourth was a nip and tuck affair with both players giving absolutely everything. Again Ivan gained an early lead, before a fight back from Greg saw the players locked at 9-9. From here, it was anyone’s game, and after an incredible rally in which Greg showed incredible scrambling defensive, ended in a let, the Scottish star rattled off 2 points to take the game 11-9 and the match 3-1.
