Karakal-sponsored athlete Elliott Morris Devred delivered a superb performance to secure the 2026 Northumbria Squash Open title in Newcastle, marking his fourth career title on the PSA Squash Tour.
The PSA Challenger $3k event brought together a competitive field, with top seed Karim Aguib entering the final in dominant form. Aguib had not dropped a single game throughout the tournament, underlining his status as favourite.
In contrast, Devredās route to the final was far more demanding. The Welshman showcased resilience and quality, notably overcoming second seed Ahmed Rashed in a hard-fought 3ā1 semi-final clash. That victory set the tone for what would become one of his most impressive performances on tour.
Controlling the Court
Devred started the final with intent and precision. Commanding the T from the outset, he applied relentless pressure through tight lengths and sharp, accurate volleys. Aguib struggled to settle as Devred surged into a deserved two-game lead, taking the opening games 11ā6, 11ā5.
The third game saw a dramatic shift in momentum. Aguib responded emphatically, racing to a 7ā1 lead with aggressive play and renewed intensity. Despite Devredās efforts to claw his way back, the Canadian closed out the game 11ā8, punctuating the moment with a roar that signalled a potential comeback.
Composure Under Pressure
Rather than letting the momentum slip, Devred regrouped impressively in the fourth. Reasserting control of the centre of the court, he dictated rallies once again and forced Aguib into a series of extraordinary defensive efforts.
Maintaining his composure, Devred earned multiple match balls before finally converting on his third opportunity. With an 11ā6 win in the fourth game, he sealed the match 3ā1 (11ā6, 11ā5, 8ā11, 11ā6) and claimed the Northumbria Open crown.
A Milestone Moment
This victory marks Devredās fourth PSA Tour title and reinforces his growing presence on the professional circuit. His ability to overcome a top seed in such commanding fashion highlights both his tactical maturity and physical sharpness.
For Karakal, the win is another testament to the brandās commitment to supporting elite talent across the global squash stage.
Well done Elliott!
